Gas Networks Ireland wins Overall Operational Excellence Award
Gas Networks Ireland, the national gas network operator, received prestigious recognition at the 2023 Operational Excellence Awards held on Thursday, June 15. The awards acknowledge and honours individuals, teams and organisations dedicated to achieving operational excellence and driving business transformation. Gas Networks Ireland was named as the winner of the Operational Excellence in Utilities award, where ESB, Rural WiFi and Uisce Éireann were all finalists.
Gas Networks Ireland also took the main accolade on the night, winning the Overall Operational Excellence Award – an award chosen by judges from all entries.
Gas Networks Ireland’s success at the awards was mainly due to the utility’s successful implementation of new equipment that revolutionises the process of exchanging ball valves at a customer's properties, eliminating the need to break ground, enabling field technicians to perform the task seamlessly. Delivering higher health and safety, customer service and workmanship standards, while achieving significant efficiencies across the business. The company is continuing to further develop and implement this tool for its medium pressure network.
Gas Networks Ireland’s Service Delivery Manager, Mark Clarke said winning these Operational Excellence Awards was a testament to the team and to the whole organisation’s commitment to excellence:
“We are delighted to be recognised for our commitment to maintaining the highest standard of excellence in our operation of the gas network. We are extremely proud of all our staff for their hard work, passion and continued dedication,” Mr Clarke said.
“This sustainable energy solution provides our team with a new one-man tool to exchange Ball Valves at customer properties while the fitter is already on site. It removes the need for any ground breaking mechanical machinery and all excavations and reinstatement at a customer’s property.”
