Gas Networks Ireland (GNI) has published 'Ireland's Gas Network - Keeping Ireland's Energy Moving'. Detailing key facts and figures relating to the Irish gas network, this comprehensive report also provides an overview of the current EU and national energy policy; outlines how Gas Networks Ireland is transforming to a fully decarbonised network, that only transports renewable gases by 2045; and, highlights our sustainability priorities.

Delivering natural gas safely and securely to Irish homes and businesses for over 40 years, the gas network, a €3bn publicly owned asset, generates approx. half of Ireland’s electricity and delivers more than 31% of Ireland’s primary energy needs.

As Ireland’s energy system evolves in response to the challenges of decarbonisation and energy security, and, as energy demand grows, Gas Networks Ireland has a pivotal role to play in enabling Ireland to achieve net zero by 2050. By transforming our modern and flexible gas network we can support the development of indigenous renewable gases, including green hydrogen and biomethane, and enhance security of energy supply.

As the company responsible for developing, operating, and maintaining the network, we are committed to making a vital contribution to Ireland’s net zero carbon future and to working with all stakeholders to maximise the contribution of the network for today and for the future.
