Moving Ireland’s Energy
We ensure that almost 725,000 customers receive a safe and reliable supply of energy while we prepare for a future in which renewable gases enable us to support Ireland's transition to a net zero energy system.
Who we are
We are Gas Networks Ireland. We operate one of Europe's most modern, renewables-ready gas networks and ensure a safe and secure supply of natural gas to meet our customers’ heating, cooking, manufacturing, and transport needs.
The gas network is the cornerstone of Ireland’s energy system, securely supplying more than 30% of Ireland’s total energy, including 40% of all heating and almost 50% of the country’s electricity generation.
We play an essential role in moving Ireland’s energy. Now, by working to replace natural gas with renewable gases that complement intermittent renewable electricity, Gas Networks Ireland is supporting Ireland’s journey to a cleaner energy future.
Moving Ireland’s energy in a new way
By gradually replacing natural gas with renewable gases, such as biomethane and green hydrogen, Gas Networks Ireland is working to deliver a net-zero carbon gas network by 2045 and to reduce emissions across a number of key sectors, including those that are traditionally difficult to decarbonise, like transport, agriculture, industry, and power generation.
Always working, always under watch
The key to our success has always been the commitment of our talented people to ensure the safe operation of the gas network and their focus on putting customers first. Our colleagues make every effort to support customers in a prompt and efficient manner and continuously seek to improve the levels of service that we provide daily across all aspects of our business including safety and emergency response, pipeline service laying and modification, and meter installations and alterations. Customer safety will always remain our top priority and we have invested considerable resources to ensure that our operations, procedures and processes meet the best international utility safety standards.
