Ireland’s gas transmission network

Ireland’s gas transmission network transports high pressure gas around Ireland via 2,500 kilometres (km) of steel transmission pipeline, supplying large end users such as power stations, large industrial plants, whilst it also receives gas injections from the main gas terminals and gas producers.

Delivering gas safely and securely to businesses for over 40 years, the gas network today serves almost 720,000 customers in 22 counties around Ireland including 27,000 multinational and Irish businesses.

Connecting to the gas network

Typical connections to the transmission network require the welding of “hot tap” or branch connection onto the existing high-pressure transmission while it is operational. A new high pressure steel pipeline is laid to the customer’s premises and an Above Ground Installation (AGI) is constructed on the customer site. Please download our transmission connection brochure and enquiry form below to begin this process.

As the energy landscape changes, we are continuing to provide access and create more opportunities for customers to connect to the transmission network. Gas Networks Ireland recognises that each project is different and will work to design a solution tailored to each customer’s requirements.

Please see below information and documentation that will support your connection journey.
