Gas Networks Ireland operates and maintains Ireland’s €2.7bn, 14,664km national gas network, which is considered one of the safest and most modern renewables-ready gas networks in the world.

Gas Networks Ireland is now seeking to appoint a Senior Investment Analyst.

The Role:

The Portfolio Office function within Gas Networks Ireland is responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight for the delivery of all capital and operational work within the organisation, enabling it to make key decisions that will optimise the overall delivery of GNI’s portfolio of work.  The office provides support and oversight in the areas of Investment Planning and Governance, Integrated Delivery Planning, Portfolio Programme Management, Connections Coordination and Contractor Performance; whilst also acting as the gate keeper and critical interface between potential investment programmes and commercial opportunities; and the core departments responsible for the delivery, operation and maintenance of GNI’s assets.

The Investment Planning and Governance team area within Portfolio office is responsible for development of the capital & maintenance investment plans & budgets, monitoring performance of the plans, ensuring that the business is operating to maximise its capital efficiencies and serves to ensure that Programmes are delivering business benefits. Reporting to the Capital Budgeting and Governance Lead, the Senior Asset Investment Analyst will be responsible for driving the development of the annual capital budget, managing the capital budgetary performance reporting to GNI Executive and preparation of the Capital Commitments for presentation to the Department. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with Asset Delivery, Operations, Commercial, IT and Facilities to initiate and collate the annual capital budget ensuring it is aligned with tariff allowances, control budgets and Corporate Plan. 
  • Manage and conduct the monthly Budgetary Performance review meetings, providing monthly analysis of all capital project spend against budgets with detailed variance analysis.  
  • Produce quarterly re-forecasts of capital spends by engaging with relevant stakeholders and report against budget and tariff allowances. Provide detailed analysis on budget and reforecast variances, including unit cost and quantity variances.   
  • Responsible for the preparation of budgetary capital reports for Asset Delivery to GNI senior management. 
  • Aid in the preparation of the annual Capital Commitments budget for delivery to the Department. 
  • Continuous improvement of capital reporting capabilities within GNI ensuring consistent, accurate and timely information is available for all stakeholders. 
  • Assist with price control look back and look forward documentation for capital projects, ensuring that adequate evidence is in place to justify that spend was efficiently incurred, evidence of efficiency savings achieved, and justifying that projects were efficiently deferred where appropriate. 
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time. 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Third level qualification in a numerate discipline with at least 5 years relevant experience, ideally in a commercial/financial/analytical role. 
  • Proven financial/numerical modelling skills in Microsoft Excel is essential. 
  • A recognised accounting qualification or equivalent experience would be an advantage.   
  • You have demonstrated a commitment to developing new skills in yourself and others and a track record of getting results through others 
  • Good understanding of Business Management Systems and their implementation and specifically Maximo is an advantage  
  • Previous experience with initiating and maintaining strategic relationships both internally and externally, using strong influencing skills to achieve business goals  
  • You are comfortable with change and have a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for improvements and efficiency 
  • Proven track record with dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion, along with the ability to communicate complex information to others 
  • You are comfortable with making and taking appropriate decisions 
  • Extensive experience in PowerPoint & Word.
