Gas Networks Ireland operates and maintains Ireland’s €3bn, 14,725km national gas network, which is considered one of the safest and most modern renewables-ready gas networks in the world.
Almost 725,000 Irish homes and businesses trust Ireland’s gas network to provide efficient and reliable energy to meet their heating, cooking, manufacturing and transport needs.
The gas network is the cornerstone of Ireland’s energy system, securely supplying more than 30% of Ireland’s total energy, including 40% of all heating and almost 50% of the country’s electricity generation.
Gas Networks Ireland is aiming to deliver a repurposed, resized and fully decarbonised gas network by 2045. Its “Pathway to a Net Zero Carbon Network” envisions transforming the existing gas network into two separate systems carrying 100% renewable gas, one dedicated to biomethane and the other to green hydrogen, with the potential to carry approximately 30% biomethane and 70% green hydrogen, as well as offering significant long term energy export opportunities.
The Role:
The Asset Operations function within Gas Networks Ireland is responsible for the construction, operations and maintenance of the Transmission and Distribution networks, executing all field work safely and efficiently in line with all relevant legislation, standards, industry codes and practices. The Services Team within Service Delivery is responsible for managing all meter related work such as customer connections and relocations, meter maintenance, replacement, and decommissioning.
Reporting to the Siteworks Supervisor, the Siteworks Fitter will conduct all work in the field including customer connect/relocate, maintain, replacement, and decommission. The siteworks fitter will use Maximo, Click and Syclo applications to manage their end to end work process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Completing all field Siteworks activity as assigned
- Using Maximo, Click and Syclo technologies to manage the end to work
- Reporting back work execution status to the Siteworks Manager via the Syclo handheld technology
- Ensuring that all works are carried out within GNI procedures [Meter fit Procedures etc.]
- Ensuring GNI appointment policy lease with customer using Mobile technology
- Attending all Leak Management training Safe Pass course Manual Handling etc.
- Working within the safety guidelines established by Gas Networks Ireland
- Ensuring compliance with all health and safety legislation and directives.
- Being available for First Response and outages as they arise
- Liaising with Emergency Service when required.
- Mentoring and leading new fitters and apprentices.
- Assist in the role out of implementation of new technologies and procedures.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with documented GNI procedures, risk assessments and work instructions and where unsure to seek confirmation from their line manager.
- Conducting Quality Assurance inspections / assessments as required.
- Participate in on-call rota as required
- Performing any other duties as may be assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- To be G2 G3 or GID Qualified or equivalent
- Ability to work with others to ensure success in the performance of a team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey messages in a clear and sufficient manner
- Proven effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise and remain focused
- Flexible with regards working in a changing environment and the ability to adjust to new work structures, processes, and requirements as necessary
- Proactively identifying new areas of learning and using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job
- Striving for quality and ensuring consistent high standards of work
**The successful candidate to be working out of Waterford, Carlow and Kilkenny but will be expected to Travel anywhere within the GNI siteworks southern region.**
