Bringing Engineering to life: Gas Networks Ireland and Junior Achievement Ireland host Energize Workshops for local Cork & Dublin students

Gas Networks Ireland and Junior Achievement Ireland recently hosted a series of Energize Workshops in Cork and Dublin as part of STEPS Engineers Week 2025.

To bring engineering to life and in keeping with this year’s theme for Engineers Week  “Design Your Future”, the workshops focused on introducing energy related engineering topics to sixth class students. The workshops aimed to inspire and educate students about the critical role of engineers in the energy sector and throughout the session students engaged in hands on activities designed to foster creativity and problem-solving skills.

Commenting on the initiative, Social Sustainability Manager at Gas Network Ireland, Gráinne O’Reilly said “We are thrilled with the turnout and enthusiasm shown by the students in both Cork and Dublin. Engineering plays a pivotal role in addressing energy challenges. Providing an environment where young minds can innovate and collaborate is essential in our journey towards a sustainable future. We are proud to provide these workshops to young people alongside our programme partners at Junior Achievement Ireland.”

The workshops form part of a wider partnership with Junior Achievement Ireland known as the ‘Energize’ Programme. The science education programme is designed to nurture a positive attitude towards science and in turn boost greater numbers of science graduates and STEAM (Science, Technology, Energy, Art and Maths) skilled professionals.

In 2024, Gas Networks Ireland was appointed as a champion for the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications as part of the SDG Ireland Champions Programme. The ‘Energize’ workshops support progress towards Goal 4: Quality Education, and also supports progress on Goal 12: Climate Action.
