Gas Networks Ireland is seeking independent members to join its Innovation Steering Group (ISG). This group oversees the innovation funding provided by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU), aimed at promoting and encouraging innovation within the gas industry.
Innovation is an important aspect of what we do at Gas Network Ireland, bringing efficiencies to our current operations and network assets but also guiding the work to decarbonise our assets, our activities and the gas we transport.
The Gas Innovation Fund is designed to foster an environment of creativity and innovation, engaging with key stakeholders and the innovation community to share knowledge, leverage best practices, and develop innovative solutions that meet the needs of the gas industry.
Gas Networks Ireland proposes to appoint two independent members to the ISG for a term extending to the end of the current price control period (October 2027).
Role of Independent Members
Independent members will provide objective scrutiny of proposed innovation initiatives and processes. They are expected to challenge when necessary while supporting the delivery of the innovation fund's objectives.
In accordance with the CRU guidelines, independent members should not have been employed by Gas Networks Ireland, must possess relevant senior-level experience and must be free from conflicts of interest in the projects being considered.

Gas Networks Ireland also invites comments on the governance arrangements for the innovation fund and the proposal to appointment two independent members for a term until October 2027.
