Gas Networks Ireland and Deloitte partner up for tree planting event at AGI Baldrumman

Employees from Gas Networks Ireland and Deloitte recently planted 1,200 trees on the grounds of one of Gas Networks Ireland’s Above Ground Installations (AGI) in Baldrumman, near Lusk, Co. Dublin. The initiative was part of a partnership formed earlier this year when Gas Networks Ireland appointed Deloitte as delivery partner for its Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) project.

In 2022, Gas Networks Ireland launched a significant rewilding and biodiversity project at the Baldrumman AGI, with a promise to plant over 14,000 native Irish woodland trees in 2023. With the recent addition of 1,200 trees, the total number of trees planted at the site now exceeds 15,300.

Commenting on the initiative, Gas Networks Ireland’s Sustainability Environmental Manager Ronan Walsh said: “At Gas Networks Ireland we are mindful of the impact of our operations on the environment and in the communities in which we operate. Each tree planted will play a role in helping to improve the area’s biodiversity. It also reinforces our commitment to sustainable development, a pledge recognised with the organisation’s appointment to the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communication’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Champions programme, and aligns with UN SDG 13: Climate Action and UN SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.”

Deloitte’s Partner, Sustainability Market Lead Glenn Gillard said: “We are delighted to support Gas Networks Ireland in advancing their Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) efforts. Our collaboration on this initiative is a testament to our shared commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. By integrating sustainability into core business practices, we are not only helping Gas Networks Ireland meet its reporting goals but also driving positive change for the communities and the environment in which we all operate.”
